What is missed call text back, and how many jobs does it save?

Missed call text back is a simple automation. When a call to your business goes unanswered, the caller gets a text within seconds that says you saw the call and will get right back to them. It keeps the lead from calling the next business on the list, which is what most of them do when nobody picks up.

Why missed calls are so expensive

If you run a service business, you miss calls. You are on a roof, under a sink, in a customer's yard, or driving. The person calling is usually ready to book, and they have a list of two or three other businesses open in another tab. When the call goes to voicemail, most of them do not leave a message. They dial the next number.

That is the whole problem. It is not that you are bad at answering the phone. It is that the customer's patience is measured in seconds and you are busy doing the actual work.

1. A call comes in and nobody answers within a few rings.
2. Within seconds, the caller receives a text: "Hi, this is Mike at Smith Tree Service. Sorry we missed you, we are on a job. What can we help with? Reply here and we will get right back to you."
3. The caller replies by text, which most people prefer anyway.
4. You see the conversation on your phone or in your CRM and answer when you have a free minute.

The text does one job: it keeps the customer in a conversation with you instead of with your competitor. Everything else, the quote, the booking, the follow up, happens the way it always did.

Work out what missed calls cost you

You do not need industry statistics for this. Use your own numbers.

• Count the calls you miss in a normal week. Your phone log will tell you.
• Estimate how many of those would have become a job if you had answered. Be conservative. One in four is a reasonable starting guess for most service businesses.
• Multiply by your average job value.

For example, ten missed calls a week, one in four would have booked, and a $600 average job is $1,500 a week walking out the door, or roughly $6,000 a month.
